Maude Saunders 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade ELA teachers participated in the “Good to Great Teaching Institute” this week.  This EPIC professional learning activity with The New Teacher Project provided teachers with the opportunity to unpack standards and text and analyze student work.  Submitted by Krisy Spence.

Mrs. Mosley’s class used the story of “Spookley the Square Pumpkin” to learn about standing up to bullies and sticking up for those being bullied. They had a great time making their own Spookley’s out of paper plates.  Submitted by Krisy Spence.

FHS Student, Jenna Martin, received a monetary award from Florida Farm Bureau for placing 3rd in the 2017 Speech Competition. The topic of this year's speeches was "Today's food companies employ many tactics including food labels to gain a marketing edge. Second grade students at WDE embarked on an adventure of a lifetime aboard the Buccaneer Pirate Cruise located at HarborWalk Village in Destin. The tour interactively entertained students with sword fights, water gun battles, storytelling, singing, dancing, and treasure hunts. Submitted by Jessica Dawkins.

The 5th graders at WDE showed their enthusiasm for the last Vocabulary Word Parade in which they will participate. Blaze D. said, “This is the best parade we’ve had, and it’s sad I won’t be in it next year.” Each student dressed to impress with his or her chosen, on grade level vocabulary word. Signs were created to show the word and definition. The students had a great time at their final parade.

The Freeport High School Manufacturing and Pre-engineering Academy students recently enjoyed industry visits to celebrate Manufacturing Month. The students were treated to tours at L3 Crestview Aerospace and American Elite Molding in Crestview. L3 is an industry leader in all areas of aircraft manufacture, aerostructures fabrication, and aircraft modification. American Elite Molding is America's leading manufacturer of nylon cable ties, producing over one million "zip ties" a day. Submitted by Ted Missildine, Instructor.

Paxton High School art students went on a field trip to the Pensacola Museum of Art.  They saw exhibits by artists Francisco Goya and Federico Castellon.  The students have been studying and creating pieces of art based on the Impressionist movement.  They were able to view the exhibit Rebels with a Cause: American Impressionist Women”  from the Sellars Collection.
