Kindergarten STEM at WDE

October has been a lots of fun in Kindergarten. Students enjoyed investigating and comparing length during a STEM activity. Students were tasked with constructing the tallest tower they could using candy pumpkins, candy corn, and play doh. Imagination and high order thinking skills came in handy with this challenging project. Submitted by Jessica Dawkins.

WDE 4th Graders are Studying Hurricanes

Mrs. McLaney’s fourth grade class at WDE is studying hurricanes and how they affect people. Students have learned about the dangerous effects of hurricanes. In this lesson, students made a hurricane in a bowl by using water and food coloring. Students were able to see the eye of the storm and how the hurricane can stretch over an area. Second grade students at WDE enjoyed working with interactive number lines during math this week. The number line is an important tool for helping children develop greater flexibility in mental arithmetic as they actively construct mathematical meaning, number sense, and understandings of number relationships. Community Helpers visit Kindergarten students at MHS

Police Officers, Nurses, and Firefighters! Oh my! Our kindergartners attended several special presentations this past week to discover helpers in our community. Each of our community helpers shared about their jobs and the special tools they use to perform their jobs. We are blessed to have the Walton County Fire Rescue, the Walton County Health Department and our very own Deputy Messenger visit kindergarten. Submitted by Elizabeth Gaither.
