EPIC Van to be Present at the Splash Bash Saturday

Walton County Sheriff's Office is excited to host our annual Back-to-School Splash Bash and backpack giveaway!
This event will be held by Walton County Sheriff's Office School Resource Deputies at Wee Care Park from 11 am - 2 pm.
Hot dogs, hamburgers, and snow cones will be available for all who attend. Backpacks will be given out on a first come first serve basis along with some basic school supplies.
We will have inflatable slides, bouncy houses, and kid's activities for fun for the whole family! We look forward to seeing you there! 
Please join the Walton County School District in supporting this cause and visit our EPIC Van while you are there.  

Stuff the Bus

Walton County School District is partnering with United Way of the Emerald Coast and their “Stuff the Bus” event on July 31, 2021 at Walmart locations and online.  All donated supplies will be distributed to students in Walton and Okaloosa counties.  Giving is also as easy as texting “Schoolsupplies” to 40403.  If you have questions, you may contact United Way directly at 850-812-0315 or send us your questions here at the district office through “Let’s Talk” from the district website.  View the attached flyer for further information.  Come on, let’s “Stuff the Bus!”

Superintendent Hughes and the Walton County School Board Attend Master Board Program

School Board Member Tammy Smith, School Board Member Kim Kirby, School Board Member Jeri Michie, Vice Chairperson Bill Eddins, Chairperson Jason Catalano and Superintendent of Walton County Schools, A. Russell Hughes.

The Master Board Program, governance team training for the School Board and Superintendent, is designed to strengthen the leadership team’s ability to work effectively, efficiently, and collectively as a governance body while maintaining a focus on student achievement and factors contributing to the success of schools.  Opportunities are provided for the team to discuss and improve or enhance those important interpersonal issues which are essential to team functioning.

This leadership curriculum is designed to offer meaningful learning sessions concentrating on student achievement through the five components of the FSBA Governance Model. Some of the skills, knowledge, processes, and concepts that are addressed in the leadership curriculum include: supporting student achievement, consensus building, developing trust, conflict resolution, leadership and communication styles, stages of team development, perspective –taking, roles and responsibilities, district culture, and problem-solving.

WMS Graciously Thanks Community South Bank

Community South Bank gave Mr. Joe Proffitt and the WMS ag department a $1500 grant to buy three new composting towers.  What an exciting way to kick off the new school year!  WMS is so thankful for its community partners who pour into the lives of students.

Parents, please make sure you register your child for school as soon as possible! Please register now if you have a new pre-kindergartner or kindergartner. You also need to register if you are returning to brick and mortar schools from Walton Virtual, home, or private school, and of course, please register if you are new to Walton County. We are ready to assist you and excited about the start of the 21-22 school year!

WCSD 2021-22 Annual Manufacturing Day

The Walton County School District prepares and plans to move forward into the 2021-22 school year in true EPIC fashion.  Schools, district staff, parents, and students are attending in person and via Microsoft Teams our annual Manufacturing Day.  Manufacturing Day was envisioned five years ago by Superintendent A. Russell Hughes as a time to “hear the buzz” and “feel the excitement” for the upcoming school year.   Superintendent Hughes began the day with excitement welcoming everyone and clarifying goals and expectations.  He also released the new 2021-22 theme carrying forward with what has become a statewide known term.  Last year as EPIC3 carried on the tradition and this year takes the next step with “EPIC 4wRd”, Recalibrated, Refocused, Ready, and Rocking.  Schools will spend the day planning with their School Improvement Teams with the Superintendent, full district staff, and all resources at the “Ready”!  We are excited looking forward to bringing in the 2021-22 School Year the Walton County Way. 

Maude Saunders Elementary on The Summer Slide

Summer Slide?!  Parents and educators often worry about  the "summer slide", where some students regress academically during the summer months. Students often lose some of the educational gains they've achieved throughout the school year, but not these students! They took advantage of our summer bridge program, where reading and math skills were reinforced, in a fun way.  And yes, on the last day of Summer Bridge, they enjoyed a different kind of SUMMER SLIDE!
