Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated September 15 to October 15 and honors & recognizes the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino people in the United States. The observation began as a one-week celebration in 1968. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan changed it to a month-long celebration. This was enacted into law on August 17, 1988. The month also celebrates the independence days of several Spanish-speaking countries including Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Chile.
