At Walton High School, our AP Psychology students are taking time this month to recognize the importance of mental health—because taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your body.
Mental health affects how we think, feel, and act. It influences how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Whether it’s practicing self-care, checking in on a friend, or reaching out for support, small actions can make a big difference.
✨ This month, we challenge YOU to:
✔️ Take a break when you need it
✔️ Talk openly about mental health
✔️ Support your friends and classmates
✔️ Remember: It’s okay to ask for help
Let’s work together to break the stigma and build a stronger, more supportive community. 💬

Walton High was invited by a school in South Dakota to participate. Students researched several states and selected one school in each state that they then sent invitations to encouraging THEM to join the Great Mail Race. Students completed surveys about Walton High School, DeFuniak Springs, and Florida that were sent with the invitations. When the invited schools send their surveys back, students will have the opportunity to learn about those schools, cities, and states.

Project Red Carpet welcomed Mayor Bob Campbell to speak to our seniors today! As a long-time resident of DeFuniak Springs, he encouraged our students with a powerful message of hope —that success and opportunity can be found right here if they’re willing to pursue it. He shared personal stories that reminded them to not count themselves out, but instead to recognize their potential to be used in different ways. He also highlighted the high-paying jobs and growing industries in our area, as well as those on the way, opening students’ eyes to the possibilities ahead.
Thank you, Mayor Campbell, for offering your time and insight!

Jason Catalano, our District 5 School Board member, spoke to the senior class during Project Red Carpet today, sharing a message of hope through his life experiences. He encouraged students to recognize the opportunities in front of them and to move forward with confidence. He reminded them: "If you're unsure what to do, take a deep breath and commit to something. It's not your final destination. Don't allow shame to keep you from success."
Thank you, Mr. Catalano, for taking time to speak with our seniors as they finish the last few weeks at Walton High and begin the next chapters of their lives!

From washing dogs and playful puppies to cleaning out puppy condos, our students jumped right in to help care for these amazing animals. Of course, there were plenty of snuggles along the way, too!
If you’ve been thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, we encourage you to visit Alaqua and see the wonderful animals waiting for their forever homes. 🐶 🐱
