On Saturday, February 10, Walton High School's FFA Horse and Meat Evaluation teams competed at the Florida State Fair in Tampa, FL. After a long day of competing, our Horse team placed 39th and our Meats team placed 34th. This group of FFA members did an outstanding job!
This was the first Horse Evaluation team from WHS to compete at the in-person qualifier. Our Meats team jumped ahead several places from last year.
Congratulations to both teams for their amazing accomplishments at these competitions!
The boys basketball regional quarterfinal game will be held at Ribault on Thursday, February 15, at 7:00 p.m. EST. Go Braves!
We’d like to give a shout-out to the 11 talented students that participated in the SEUS 2024 Honor Band at Troy University! We’d also like to thank Mr. Gomillion and our band members for their tireless efforts in making our Braves Marching Band EPIC!
Congratulations to our girls weightlifting team! They recently competed at the District Tournament and saw Personal Best lifts from Katelyn Wilson, Leah Peterson, and Dani Pelfrey. Journey Taylor, Ava Edwards, Ollinca Soto-Yovis, and Shelby Johnston are advancing to the Regional Competition this week. Way to go, Braves!
On January 16, Walton High's FFA attended Florida Farm Bureau Day and Ag On The Hill at our state capitol in Tallahassee. They interacted with and listened to many Farm Bureau members, senators, and representatives. They learned about how bills are voted on and passed in Florida. Our FFA members had the opportunity to connect with almost 200 other FFA members from all over the state. They also visited the offices of our senator and representative to speak about the FFA organization and the importance of FFA members for the future of agriculture. Events like today are essential for the future of agriculture!
As anatomy & physiology students learn names of some of the human skeletal muscles, they also learn about their actions, origins, and insertions. Students worked individually or with partners to attach in correct position a pre-selected set of four “muscles” to a skeleton while also indicating which end of the muscle was the origin and which was the insertion.
Students from each grade level were nominated by their teachers to participate in the 1st semester Student Roundtable with Ms. Leavins today. Students were treated to lunch from Chick-fil-A and had the opportunity to talk with Ms. Leavins about what's going well at WHS.
Congratulations to Mrs. Warren and Mrs. Burnham on being the first two recipients of the WON-ONE award!
At the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, Superintendent A. Russell Hughes unveiled a challenge to all employees of the District, and he calls it “WON-ONE”…the challenge was to find that ONE student struggling and WIN them to change the trajectory of their lives. You may hear him ask “Have you won-one?” Which is asking if you’ve WON that ONE student - the #WON-ONE award is among the highest honors in the District.
