Official school grades for the 2023-2024 school year were released for the state of Florida today, and we’re beyond excited to announce that Walton High School earned an “A”! This is our second consecutive year as an “A” school, and our score is the highest we’ve ever received (since the implementation of the current school grading formula in 2015). This achievement is due to the tireless efforts of our students, parents, staff, and community, so we’d like to take this opportunity to send a huge CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU to everyone that made this unprecedented accomplishment a reality.

Last week, some of our FFA members attended the Florida FFA State Convention and Expo in Orlando, Florida. Our members spent the week connecting with FFA members from across the state. They had the opportunity to attend workshops that covered a variety of topics ranging from how to properly pot plants to leadership development as an FFA member. Our members attended sessions with keynote speakers including Governor Ron DeSantis, the Commissioner of Agriculture (Wilton Simpson), President of the Florida Farm Bureau (Jeb Smith), and Dr. Kevin O'Farrell (Department of Education). Walton’s FFA members represented their chapter well and had a great time doing it!

Today marked the end of another EPIC school year! The buses pulled out a few minutes ago, and (as you can imagine) everyone was all smiles. Our bus drivers honked and waved as they were pulling out of the loop for the last time. We hope everyone has a great, safe summer! 😎 Remember to always BE BRAVE!

We implemented an attendance incentive program from March 25 to April 30 to emphasize to students that EVERY DAY COUNTS. Students with two or less absences earned a field trip to Dave & Buster's in Panama City Beach today. While we have no doubt the students had fun on the trip, we hope they also learned the importance of showing up & working hard every day. As Woody Allen said, "Eighty percent of success is showing up." Keep working hard, Braves, and success will follow.

Students recently participated in Art In The Park, an event coordinated by Lt. Mark Wendel and Ted Toedte of the Crime Prevention Division. This program aims to deter graffiti by painting murals on buildings. All art students at WHS were given the assignment to design a mural based on the theme of "outdoors." Four outstanding art students were chosen. Each student and their crew spent their entire Saturday drawing and painting their murals on the walls of the building at Wee Care Park. Braelyn Burch painted the crab at the beach; Casidy Nidy painted the dolphin, orange slice, and alligator; Evdokia Watkins painted the field of flowers; and Mya Graves painted the flamingos at sunset. The next time you visit the Wee Care Park, take a moment to enjoy these students' amazing artwork!

Congratulations to the following students that recently received awards at the Music in Pictures award ceremony! - Tegan Wilson, Hunter Nelson, Ruben Torro and Halle Wright - The following students were unable to attend but submitted work: Evdokia Watkins, Jesse Kilgore, Lilly Campbell, Brandon White, Scarlett Anderson, Liv Lellau, Ansley Nowling, Charlie McClung, Tyler Wait, Kaidance Hernandez, Kyla Jesky, Calie Brackin, and Julie Laviolette All the art students that participated worked creatively and diligently on their artwork. This is a difficult project for young artists. They have to create a work of art, an original image, based on their reactions and emotions from listening to various classical music. The highlight of the evening was Tegan Wilson receiving her framed artwork, medal, and certificate for winning a Judges Award for her fabulous artwork. Mr. Wolfer and the WHS family are proud of you!

Russell Hughes unveiled a challenge to all employees of the District, and he calls it “Won-One." The challenge is to find that ONE student struggling and WIN them to change the trajectory of their lives. You may hear him ask, “Have you won-one?” Which is asking if you’ve WON that ONE student. Congratulations to Dr. Tate for receiving a "Won-One" Award!
